Program Information

Do you have a child who is carrying excess weight? Would you like support to help you and your child make some healthy lifestyle changes? Through the YMCA Evidence Based Healthy Weight & Your Child Program, you will have others in the group who also share similar challenges. This program offers guidance with making lifestyle changes to help you and your child develop the awareness and improve healthy eating as well as discovering fun ways to get more active. 

Studies have shown this program is cost-efficient and effective in reducing a child’s body mass index, weight circumference, sedentary behaviors, increasing physical activity and improving self-esteem.

This is a 15 week program. Classes are 2 hours long. We require families to attend an information session, or contact us to first see if their child qualifies for this program before registering. 

Upcoming Sessions

Currently accepting referrals and registrations for Winter classes starting January 21st 2025! Classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30-7:30pm 

Required Information Session

Families will need to contact our Program Coordinator to schedule a time for caregiver and child to meet before beginning the program. Families will meet program leaders, learn more about how the program works, and we will collect the child's height and weight for baseline data. For enrollment, caregivers will need to complete and sign the enrollment forms during the Information Session.

To Qualify

Child must be 7-13 years old

Child must carry excess weight, with a body mass index of the 95th percentile or higher

Child must receive clearance from a healthcare provider or school nurse to participate in physical activity

Adult MUST attend all sessions with child
